Was kann man dazu sagen?

English for the curious :

Our fellow blogger Omar and his wife had a police inspection in their rented holiday house during their honeymoon; police had no legal permission to search the house, and claimed that they got calls from “some worried neighbors” suspecting that the couple were terrorists since they looked “oriental”, they rented a holiday house and arrived at night without a car! reasons apparently good enough for the police to invade the privacy of the couple, inspect their house and treat them as terror suspects.

Till when are Muslims going to have to tolerate such racism and embarrassments! Where are their rights as human beings?!

Thank you for the translation, Eman. All I can recall of my college German is our lecturer, Frau Meisles–eight hundred years old if a day–shouting at me “Falsch!” (What a tyrant! :) )

The German police tend toward the overly-zealous and German law usually supports them. A German friend of mine ended up moving to California after her Bavarian neighbors complained of her playing Jamaican reggae music while washing the floors of her house one sunny Spring morning and the police responded “Enough is enough,” she said. (The neighbors also took issue to her African boyfriend and her green hair. Or maybe it was his green hair–can’t quite recall.)

She’s the granddaughter of A Famous German Fieldmarshal. As is her sister, he typed stupidly. Except that her sister is somewhere to the political right, thinks the only true problem with World War II was that Hitler went a bit overboard, and she really can’t stand all those foreigners, notably Muslims and especially Turks. And everone will dress correctly, Verstehen Sie?!!

The two sisters keep in touch, though I think only to exchange snipping email snippets disguised as warm regard. There was also a recent visit, somewhat strained, their father the General having just passed away. She noted they couldn’t even talk about him, really, “as it’s considered in bad taste to speak badly of the dead.” (Must make for boring dinner conversation, don’t you think?)

Well, yours for Deuteches Ordnung.

J.

Oh. With the economy here in free fall, many of my Mexican neighbors, illegal immigrants all, are leaving their rental houses and heading for…Canada. There’s lots of work up there due to the oil shale extraction boom and the border is virtually unguarded, all forces vigilantly guarding the Mexican-U.S. border. How the Canadians will cope with this I’ve no idea, but they’ve always far more civilized than we. As to the economy, what goes around comes around.

Thank you for sharing, Eman!
How horrible what happened to them!

Janissary, thanks a lot my friend. You know, your comment did really shock me, i mean I hear of different annoying stuff about people living all around the globe but what you mentioned is just, I can’t find the word, but are they really serious to complain about the kind of music one chooses in their own home?!
God!

Andrea, many thanks for your comment. I must say that when I went to Germany (around 10 years ago) I’ve come across many people each having their own way of thinking. And just like any other country, Germany has its share of tolerant and racist members. I had my share of uncomfortable and annoying “Vorurteile” but never got attacked or had someone violate my rights, never. And I truly loved the country, it’s one of my favorite destinations. That’s why it hurts me so much to hear about stories like Omar’s.

That’s must’ve been terrible! I hope it didn’t ruin their whole trip though, they shouldn’t let others get the best of them.

But for how long do Muslims have to stand back and watch while their rights get violated time and time again?
