Calling For Immediate Strict Actions Towards Islamophobia & Anti-Muslim Violence
I really don’t know where to start, this horrible crime, this inhumane racist crime, has moved me in a way I really can’t describe.
I’m talking about the tragic death of Marwa Al-Sherbini, 32-year old Pharmacist, the Muslim, the Arab, who was stabbed (18 times) to death by a 28-year German racist, in a courtroom in the eastern city of Dresden on Wednesday, after being harassed and threatened and accused of being a terrorist by him in a park she used to go to with her little son. Her husband got 3 stabs from the criminal as well, as he rushed to rescue her, and got a gunshot by a police officer who thought he was the criminal… I’m a bit confused, I mean 18 stabs for her, 3 stabs and a gunshot for her husband inside a courtroom? where were security in the first place? how could this happen inside the court? (more in Arabic)
Besides the fact that her death was really tragic and brutal, I find the way this crime is being handled (or covered if I may say) to be really unfair and biased. I mean if it were a non-Muslim, or a non-Arab victim, killed by an Arab or a Muslim, I think the whole story would’ve been dealt with very differently and we’d be suffering all kinds of prices that we’d have to pay for the crime. But then again, it’s just an Arab, a Muslim, we’re expected to get angry for a while and then forget all about it, right?
I know that Germans must not all be labeled as racists or criminals (we know how this feels), and I’m not implying that just because one German has committed such a horrible crime so that means all Germans are racists and hate Muslims; and I’m sure that justice will surely find its way, but isn’t it about time to admit having an Islamophobia problem around the world? isn’t it about time countries start addressing racism towards Arabs and finally act?
I believe all Arabs and Muslims must call for:
- The harshest verdict to the criminal;
- Strict consequences for any anti-Muslim/Arab statements or actions; Muslim harassment must be considered a serious issue that must be punished.
